From November 2018 to January 2019, an outreach writing project involving over a hundred Liverpool residents was managed and co-ordinated by Writing on the Wall. A small team of established writers, playwrights and poets worked with diverse groups, including some of the most marginalised within our communities, and involved people of all ages and cultural backgrounds, to generate poetry, prose and spoken word. The project offered an invitation to discuss themes central to the City of Light, City of Sanctuary, exploring issues around belonging, migration and displacement. Audio recordings of the work will be incorporated into the soundscape accompanying the City of Light installation.

By welcoming such diverse involvement, City of Light, City of Sanctuary invites everyone who is touched by the project to reflect on the variety of experiences that are woven into the fabric of all global cities.
